This year’s Fiction for Fun will take place from 3 – 6 April 2025. It will be held at the Grosvenor Arms Hotel in Shaftesbury, and is designed to encourage a love of fiction both through reading and writing. The talent in North Dorset for both published and unpublished work is huge. This celebration of fiction will include authors and creative writing groups in the area. It will include publishing, fantasy, fiction drawn from real life, and contemporary as well as short stories.
Entry to this will be free of charge. It will include informal coffee mornings and more structured afternoon sessions. Speakers will talk about their writing process, how to world-build and how they were published. They will look at topics like self, Indy and traditional publishing. They will also discuss book readings, interviews, and how to start writing. Authors will have their books to sell and local writers will share their work through open mic.
Rosie King and Fran Hill write under the pseudonyms of Rosie Lear and Tiggy Hayes. They are passionate about promoting fiction in all its guises. They helped bring Reading the Land Book Festival to Shaftesbury. They both wanted to expand their love of fiction and to bring it to life for a wider audience. In 2023, we had our first Fiction for Fun Festival. We received so much positive feedback, it became clear there was a strong appetite for events like this. We needed to do a sequel.
